The rain has raged and the wind has blown hard all day...a perfect day for staying inside and knitting. Finished two pairs of socks last week...
...the first a plain crew pair from beautiful Trekking XXL tweeded gray yarn. The second are my favorite socks in a long while, a fair isle pair from my new favorite sock yarn, "Socks That Rock" from Blue Moon Fiber Arts out in Oregon.
They may look a little misshapen, but they actually fit perfectly. Next pair I make (and I will make more, given that I bought three more skeins and still have enough left from the two skeins intermixed in the fair isle pair to use in more fair isle work) will have a few small changes. I will eliminate the garter ridge at the bottom of the leg just before the heel, since I think the sock will fit better without it. This yarn is dyed in really rich, lustrous colors and is made from a wonderful, springy superwash merino. I wrote to the manufacturer to find out if it's New Zealand merino, since I want to make sure I don't buy wool from sheep that are raised on farms that practice mulesing, a barbaric practice that involves injuring the sheep for no good reason...It's so nasty, I don't want to go into it here, but find out more by clicking the link.
Stayed up late making a slide show for Jackson Memorial from pictures taken at last week's annual Book Fair down in Tenants Harbor. I had fun being a helper this year, seeing all my old friends and prowling around with my camera.
I think the yellow t-shirts Bill Zierden bought were a nice touch and helped to easily identify the people who were working at the event. Weather was perfect. Not much art this year because the board is planning a special art auction later in the year to try to raise some big money for the building fund. There was a wonderful large Duback print I bid on but kept to my historical habit of not winning!
Will write more tomorrow about Suzi's homecoming, which was awesome and emotional. Will put in a few pictures Heather Diskin took to document the happy event.
For now, here's a couple recent pinup shots of Siri, taken by Frannie. Isn't she
gorgeous? Especially since you can't see the mud!
